The 101 Series

Currently I lead a series of "101" classes at The Yoga Barn.  In America, "101" classes are what you take in college as foundational courses for a liberal arts education: Psychology 101, Sociology 101, English 101, etc.  These are basic classes that give you the grounding to move forward onto more advanced courses.

Most people who come through Ubud are coming for some sort of transformation or healing, or to reconnect to themselves in a deeper way. Many come from very stressful lives with work and family and they feel overwhelmed with not being able to find any time for themselves. Some have heard the lingo being passed around about energy, chakras, intuition and meditation but don't really know anything about what any of it means. There is so much information out there and it is hard to know where to start.  These "101" classes give you that starting place.


We know scientifically that we (along with everything!) are made of energy.  There are machines and cameras now that can measure and show our energetic field. In some traditions there is thought to be many layers to our energetic field: Some say 4, 5, this site to read about some different beliefs. In this class we talk about the energy field as the "aura" in general. We believe this is a porous electromagnetic field that starts from within our physical body and extends outside of our body, sometimes quite far outside our body. It holds much information and some people can "see" or "feel" information that is held in this field. We are learning more about ourselves (as physical and energetic beings) and beginning to understand that there is much more to our multi-dimensional selves than we once thought, we are becoming more and more aware of how our energy affects and is affected by others and different environments.

In this class we do exercises that allow you to get a sense of your energy field so you can understand what it actually is that you are working with - the size, the sensitivity, etc.  We talk about different ways to become aware of whether you are engaging with other energy that isn't beneficial to you and then give you exercises for you  to help disengage. We'll talk about the importance of grounding and how to energetically "shield" yourself.

You'll leave with practical exercises that you can experiment with to discover more about your energy field. And we'll also give you a reference list for you to further your exploration.


Everyone has intuition...some are just more aware of it. Wikipedia defines intuition as: the ability to acquire knowledge without inference or the use of reason.

In this class we talk about the different types of intuition: Clairvoyance, Claircognisance, Clairaudience, Clairsentience, Clairempathy, Clairtangence and others. Often people spend so much time questioning whether it is their intuition or just their mind giving them direction. There is no way to say 100% either way but there are ways to learn how to trust yourself through body cues.

We do exercises to help you understand how you receive information and give you tools that will help you to learn to trust your intuition.


There are so many forms of meditation to practice. Often times it is overwhelming just to figure out how to start. In this workshop we'll talk about why people meditate and what the benefits of it can be. We'll discuss various types: guided/journeys, mindfulness, active, silent, etc. and give examples to help you find what works for you.


In this 4-hour class we cover the 7 basic chakras: root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. We talk about the colors, sounds, symbology and psychological development of each. This serves as a foundation for you to explore more into each chakra - charging or calming as necessary.
